Optometrist

Yessica Cañas, O.D.

Dr. Cañas grew up in Brighton, Colorado, and attended Brighton High School. She graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder(opens in new tab) with a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Physiology.

While at Boulder, she became an active member of Pi Lambda Chi Latina Sorority and the dance group Grupo Folclórico de Boulder.

Dr. Cañas received her doctorate from Midwestern University Arizona College of Optometry(opens in new tab). She was a member of the American Optometric Student Association, an American Academy of Optometry Student Fellow since 2017, and a Student Chapter of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity.

Dr. Cañas is an active member of the Colorado Optometric Association. She is a 2024 graduate of the Lead On leadership training program through the Colorado Optometric Association.

Dr. Cañas enjoys all the wonderful outdoor activities the state has to offer. She enjoys running, biking, skiing, kayaking, hiking, travel and paddle boarding. She enjoys gardening and learning new recipes when not spending time with family. Dr. Cañas is bilingual in Spanish and English and loves to see new patients.

La Dra. Cañas, de padres mexicanos, creció en la ciudad de Brighton, Colorado. La doctora Cañas atendió nuestras escuelas locales, y dúrate su tiempo en la Preparatoria de Brighton, ella a trabajo en nuestra oficina como asistente de optometrista.

Después de graduarse de la preparatoria la Dra. Cañas atendió la Universidad de Colorado Boulder, donde obtuvo su Bachillerato de Artes en Fisiología Integrativa con un certificado en Salud Publica. Durante su tiempo en Boulder ella fue parte de la hermandad Pi Lambda Chi Latina Sorority Inc. y del Grupo Folclórico de Boulder.

Optometrist

Natalie Nell, O.D.

Dr. Natalie Nell was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Oklahoma(opens in new tab) before graduating magna cum laude with her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University.

During her time as a doctoral candidate, Dr. Nell served on the board of the American Optometric Student Association as Trustee and then served on the AOSA Executive Council as Secretary. She attended many legislative events in California and Washington DC to advocate for her profession and patients. She maintains her membership of the American Optometric Association and the Colorado Optometric Association.

Her clinical training included rotations at the Cornea and Contact Lens Institute of Minnesota, Anadarko Indian Health Services in Oklahoma, and community care in South Central Los Angeles, where she gained advanced experience in managing ocular disease, fitting specialty contact lenses, and providing examinations in Spanish.

She is a Student Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and a member of Student Chapter of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity.

Dr. Nell enjoys spending time outdoors, trying new restaurants, and exploring the world, all made better in the company of her friends and family.

Retired

Rodney D. Fair

Dr. Rod Fair grew up in Brighton, attended Hastings College(opens in new tab) in Nebraska and the Southern California College of Optometry(opens in new tab) in Fullerton, California. After graduating in 1982 Dr. Fair attended the State University of New York in New York City for a residency in pediatric vision and vision therapy.

Dr. Fair is active in the community being a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Chamber of Commerce and the First Presbyterian Church. He is a past president of the Colorado Optometric Association. He has received the Young Optometrist of the year award, the Optometrist of the year award, the Distinguished Optometrist award and for the 1990’s was named Optometrist of the decade.

Dr. Fair is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry in which only 10% of optometrists have qualified for membership. An extensive course of case report writing and passing an examination is required for membership. The goal of the Academy of Optometry is to promote excellence and life long learning.

He is a member of the College of Optometrists in Vision Development and has an interest in children’s vision and vision and learning, ocular disease treatment and contact lenses.

Dr. Rod enjoys skiing, gardening, reading, woodworking, the theater and spending time with his wife Monica and children Grant and Katrina.

Retired

Ron G. Fair

Dr. Ron Fair retired in January of 2011 after founding Brighton Eye Associates in 1959.

Dr. Ron Fair entered practice in Brighton in 1959 after serving as a Doctor of Optometry in the United States Army.
